How to apply for housing help in Bethel — which door, and the form for it

Which office depends on who you are. If you are Alaska Native or American Indian (1/4 or more) and have lived in Bethel 30 days or more, ONC's Housing Department is the main door: homebuyer (you pay 15% of income for 15 years, then the home is yours), rehabilitation of a home you own, six-month rental-assistance vouchers for a private-market rental, homeless prevention (first month's rent and/or deposit up to $2,500), ONC low-rent units at 30% of income including utilities, emergency repair for hazardous plumbing or wiring, and down-payment assistance. One separate application per program. 907-543-2608 or 800-478-2654, 117 Alex Hately Drive, Mon-Fri 8:30am-5pm. Renovation and homebuyer applications are due October 31 to be considered for the following year. If you are an eligible member of a federally recognized tribe in the wider Y-K Delta, AVCP Regional Housing Authority runs homeownership (mortgage) homes and low-income rentals, plus an emergency voucher of up to $500 for a shut-off, fuel or a housing payment: 907-543-3121 or 800-478-4687, 411 Ptarmigan Street. Submit their paper application and you are on the list; they publish no waiting-list status. Anyone can apply to AHFC's Bethel office for its own family rental units (Bethel Heights): 907-543-2228, 1029 Ridgecrest Drive, Mon-Fri 9am-4:30pm; income at or below 80% of area median. It is a paper packet you mail or drop off, not an online form. If you have nowhere to sleep tonight, call Bethel Winter House at 907-543-2150.
