Metlakatla Founders Day (August 7, annual)

Metlakatla's community birthday, celebrated every August 7: a marathon, parade at 11:00, field events all afternoon with cash prizes for every age group (foot races, three-legged race, egg toss, tug-o-war, kayak race, couples dance), a Warrior Princess contest, a free community picnic, traditional dancing at Town Hall, karaoke at the Artist Village and fireworks at night. Vendor booth spaces on Lower Atkinson Street - sign up at the MIC Council Chambers (MIC main line 907-886-4441; no electrical).
