KYUK🚨 STORM UPDATE: Gusty Winds & Coastal Flooding Expected for Soutwest Alaska 🚨 Confidence is increasing for strong, widespread winds and coastal flooding across portions of Southwest Alaska. ⚠️ NEW & UPGRADED ALERTS: Coastal Flood Warning: Kuskokwim Delta Coast (Upgraded from Watch) A strong low moving out of eastern Russia into the Bering Sea early this week will strengthen as it ingests energy and tropical moisture from Ex-Dujuan, a former tropical storm south of the Aleutians. Model consensus shows the storm low center moving inland towards Nunivak Island and stalling there as it weakens. While winds will start out of the southeast (and generally not conducive to widespread storm surge flooding), this track will bring a period of southerly flow which is highly likely to bring 1-2 feet of coastal flooding to both Kwigillingok and Kipnuk. Stay tuned for further updates. KYUKUpdate: The remnants from Typhoon Dujuan are no longer expected to completely phase with a developing storm in the western Bering. While heat and moisture from the typhoon will strengthen the Bering system, it’s now expected to be weaker and farther south than forecast models were indicating over the past few days. What was expected to be a 930-950 mb low is now expected to be in the realm of 965-980 mb. This is still a strong storm, with widespread gale to storm force winds expected throughout the Bering and along portions of the Southwest coastline. The most notable change is the farther south storm track, which will limit the potential for coastal flooding considerably compared to the farther north track indicated the past few days. At this time, forecast guidance does not indicate impacts comparable to those associated with Halong or Merbok. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as the forecast becomes more certain.Update: The remnants from Typhoon Dujuan are no longer expected to completely phase wit…102 shares
